Step 1: Prepare the hair

Brush your hair thoroughly to remove any tangles. If necessary, dampen it slightly or apply a little gel for extra hold.

Step 2: Make a ponytail

Gather hair into a tight ponytail at the desired height (usually mid- to high-top for ballet). Secure with a strong elastic.

Step 3: Wrap the wick

Twist the ponytail around itself, then wrap it around the elastic to form a tight snail.

Step 4: Secure the bun

Hold the shape with one hand, then secure the bun with clips around the base. Add the bun net for extra hold, then add a few more clips if needed.

Step 5: Finishing touches

Spray on hairspray to set everything. Smooth down any flyaways with a comb, a little gel, or our flyaway spray, Slickky . Optionally, add accessories for a personal touch.

Expert advice

  • For very fine hair, lightly backcomb the ponytail before wrapping it.

  • For short hair, use more clips and a double net.

  • Always favor simplicity and cleanliness of the bun, especially for exams and competitions.
